Umpqua Reading Council cosponsors Celebration of Literacy

IMG_1476Saturday February 27th, the Umpqua Reading Council attended the Reading Fair at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Roseburg from 10:00 to 4:00 and was able to give away 995 books to children, teens and adults.  The Reading Fair is part of the Celebration of Literacy which took place from February 20-March 5, 2016. Altrusa International and Umpqua Reading Council cosponsor this celebration yearly. The booths vary from the Horses helping readers, the Douglas County Museum booth, a book walk rather than a cake walk booth, the bounce house and many more all celebrating literacy!  Over the two weeks, there are plays put on at the high school attended by elementary students, pre school story hour, a free movie at the local theatre with the celebration ending on March 5, 2016 with the Battle of the Books at Roseburg High School, attended by teams from all over Douglas County and beyond!  As soon as we know the dates for the 2017 Celebration of Literacy, we will update you.  We have several trips to Salem to pick out books for the book exchange so look for updates!
